Baby's first plane trip

We took a trip to NYC to visit Nancy. We announced that Gus was going to be a cousin by giving him a T-shirt that said "#1 Cousin". See the picture here: Gus in #1 cousin tee. It took Nancy just a second to get what it meant... We were able to learn a little about using gDiapers and wraps. Still feeling fine - until the plane ride home... both landings were so hot - Jeff was having to fan Robin. Since then, not feeling so well...

First Doctor's appointment

We had the first prenatal appointment today - but it was really nothing too exciting. We were hoping for a little more confirmation about the pregnancy, but she said the home tests we took were just as accurate as anything they would do. We thought there was a blood test that would confirm it, but she didn't say anything about it and we didn't inquire. We won't be going in to hear the heartbeat for 4 more weeks. (June 22nd, 8:50am). And the first ultrasound won't be until 20 weeks! All this waiting is really getting hard. I just want to hear the heartbeat and then I'll feel a lot better. At least she said she could tell my uterus was bigger, so that is something.

The official due date is 12/27. First, the nurse said 12/25, but the doctor came back and said 12/27. Jeff's mom pointed out if we have it before the end of the year we can get a nice tax break. I'm still not thrilled about the date being around the holidays - so much going on! I guess at least there will be something to distract us at the very end - rather than just waiting for the baby.

This is what we looked like after the appointment - yup, we look the same....

Telling Robin's Mom

We decided to tell Robin's Mom on Mother's Day as well. Unfortunately we had to call her because she was still finishing up the school year in Florida. We called her and asked her to check an e-mail we just sent her. It seemed like it took forever for the e-mail to get to her. We e-mailed this picture of Gassime and her first reaction was "Oh Gus, I love that picture." Robin said "can you read what Gus is saying, you might need to enlarge the picture." Grandma Kathy started reading it out loud and about half way through started screaming in excitement. Great-Grandma Mann came rushing into the room as she was visiting in Florida.

Telling Jeff's Mom

We decided to go into Chicago over Mother's Day weekend to meet up with Jeff's parents and siblings to celebrate Pa's 85th Birthday. We decided to tell Jeff's Mom on Mother's Day at Gabe's Place by giving her a photo album entitled "Grandparent's brag book." Grandma Linda was a little emotional over the news and we had to let everyone else at the table know that we were expecting.

Here is a picture of the whole crew going out to eat at the Club for Pa's 85th Birthday the night before. Although no one knew Robin was pregnant, they did observe Robin not drinking any wine and eating a whole Prime Rib dinner followed by one of the largest slices of apple pie anyone has ever seen. The apple pie was so big they apparently felt it necessary to serve it on a dinner plate.
