It's a ..... Part Two

We did a second ultrasound today at Waves in Hiawatha, just a few minutes from where Robin works. I had some meetings in the area and we were able to meet for what was supposed to be a 10 minute 2D sex determination ultrasound. The ultrasound took about an hour and they gave us pictures in 2D, 3D, and 4D for $100. The person doing the ultrasound did a great job, she explained in great detail everything we were looking at on the screen. She was much more informative and knowledgeable than the individual that did our first screen in Coralville. Robin and I were both really happy with the service they provided and would definitely recommend them to anyone who wanted to do a sex determination or just to look at the baby. And we also found out definitively that we are having a Girl! We are both very excited and can't wait to pick out names, decorate the room, and get everything ready for our daughter. More pictures and details coming later, Baby Grover has her first Hawkeye game (in Chicago) to get ready for.

Baby Shout Out #1

Believe it or not we are not the only ones having a baby. We have several friends that are pregnant and we want to send a little shout out each time one of them is born.

Stroller

Robin and I have been looking at strollers for a few months now and have struggled with whether we want a regular stroller or a jogging stroller. We decided to go the regular stroller route, but Robin was still thinking we might want another one for more outdoors stuff. Robin saw this one on Craigslist and when we went to look at it, we both liked it. Robin's friend Jesse has one that is the same brand and she likes hers so that was another plus. Since it came with a car seat it means we can use it earlier than the 6 months most jogging strollers require. It is a really weird feeling to pull into the garage and see a stroller sitting there.

Ultrasound - Take Two!

(Posted by Robin - again!)
Since we were pretty sure the doctor wouldn't know of any reason to recommend a second ultrasound at this point, I had done some research on places we might be able to go to if we really wanted another one to get a better idea of the gender. My friend, Cadie, at work told me about a place called Waves in Cedar Rapids that does elective ultrasounds. I went to their website and was cracking up at the services they offer. Basically, they can set the whole room up like a theater and you can have a big party while you get your ultrasound done and everyone can watch it on the screen. They even throw baby showers there! I'm not sure if the mom is up at the front of the room with her belly exposed while she is getting the ultrasound done or if they put her behind a curtain or what. The picture posted here is from the Waves website. Look at the site to see all the stuff they offer.

I didn't want all those bells and whistles, so I e-mailed them explaining that my ultrasound didn't really confirm the gender of the baby and wondered what my least expensive options would be. They told me they also have a 2D Gender Determination Package that basically is exactly what I wanted! So, Jeff and I are going in this Thursday at noon to get it done. They even said if they can't get a very good view, I can come back another day and try again! So, it won't be a 3D/4D ultrasound and it won't be shown on the big screen, just a simple regular ultrasound, sounds like it should be just what we want.

We are both assuming they'll tell us that it is a girl and then we will be wondering why we got the second one done when they basically told us that at the first one, but oh well... I just need a little more confirmation!

4th Prenatal Appointment

(Posted by Robin - for once!)
We had our Prenatal Appointment and everything is still going very well. It took her a couple of seconds to find the heartbeat and that freaked us out, but it was there eventually. The heartrate this time was 144. The baby must have been relaxing since it wasn't in its normal 150s range. The doctor asked if we had received our letter saying everything with the ultrasound was normal and that our due date was staying the same. We hadn't -- I had just assumed no news was good news. Well, the very next day (8/24) the letter arrived, even though it had been postmarked 8/14. And interestingly, it had already been opened and then taped shut again. It must have gotten lost in the office or something. Anyway, the letter said it confirmed the due date was 12/28. All along we had thought it was 12/27, so I'm not sure what it is, obviously a day doesn't make any sort of difference, just seems like I should be aware of my official due date.

We also asked (with pleading eyes) about the possibility of getting another ultrasound since they were only 70% sure on the gender. Our doctor thought 70% was a good percentage. She said she couldn't recommend another ultrasound at this point, so it wouldn't be covered by insurance if we did have one. We were bummed out.

Baby Grover Pool

Thank you to everyone that has put in a guess for the Baby Pool. Thus far we have 42 guesses(22 guesses for a boy and 20 for a girl) and are welcoming people to put in their guess if they have not already done so since we don't know if it is a boy or a girl. We have noticed some interesting guesses from all of you. I hope some of your predictions are way off such as Schweny's prediction of a 9lb. 8oz. baby just because I don't think anyone should have to deliver something that big. We have noticed people have put in interesting dates as well for the due date. John told me his guess was Dec. 23rd at 12:05PM because that would be 5 minutes after the kickoff of the Bears vs. Packers game. I also noticed that every time I tell someone when the baby is due their response happens to be "Oh, a Christmas baby," apparently 3 people agree as their guess is that the baby will be born on Christmas Day. There are 5 people who believe it will be born on New Year's Eve and 2 that believe it will be born on New Years Day. Davis chose the last possible minute of the 2007 year, presumably because he knows I want the tax deduction and Grandpa Groves guessed it will be born at midnight on January 1st so it can be the first baby born in 2008. Please let us know in the comment section if there is any significance to the date, gender, weight, or length picked. It is interesting to hear how people came up with their guesses/picks.

Pregnancy Milestone

While out shopping for new furniture on Saturday for the front room we had a pregnancy milestone. Someone assumed we were expecting without us telling them. A saleswoman was showing us around and was talking about how easy a particular type of fabric was to clean and said how that would be helpful to us as we were expecting. We both thought that was a little gutsy on her part. She may have picked up on the fact that Jeff was helping Robin out of several different sofas and chairs or may have thought that because Robin was wearing a shirt that balloons out at the waist that she must be pregnant. We said as soon as it happened that this is going in the blog.

It's a .......

It's a ????? Well our ultrasound did not necessarily help us with figuring out whether the baby is going to be a boy or a girl. The baby was not being much of an exhibitionist when we had the ultrasound. The baby had it's legs closed making it difficult to determine if it is a boy or a girl. The Tech who did the ultrasound said she was 70% sure it's a girl. Robin was quick to point out after the appointment that she was 50% sure it was a girl before the appointment. The good news is that the baby appears to be healthy and we did get to see the baby move around a little bit. We also saw the baby's heart beating at the consistent pace of 153(I say consistent as after three appointments it has been 154, 152, and 153). Here is a picture of Robin at the appointment.

Ultrasound date changes

We originally had our ultrasound scheduled for Wednesday, August 8th. Robin decided to call an audible and has changed the date to this Friday, August 3rd. We changed it so Grandma Kathy might be able to be with us before she leaves to go back to Florida. That and the fact we wanted to know what we were having three months ago. Hopefully we will have some pictures to post soon.

Week 18 Picture

Here is a picture of Robin at 18 weeks with her Grandma in Indiana. I didn't get a side profile last week, but will make sure we get one this week. This picture was taken when we were on our whirlwind tour of the Midwest. We visited parents, grandparents, and lots of other family. I also had to include a picture of our nephew Gassime in Michigan.
