Results from Tests

We got a letter from the doctor today with some results from some tests Robin had done at her last appointment. The diabetes screen was normal (yay!), but Robin's blood count was low, meaning Robin is anemic (boo). This is very common in pregnancy though, and Robin just has to take some extra iron supplements.

The ultrasound showed that the baby is growing well (yay!). She is almost right in the middle at the 53rd percentile. The doctor said that was very reassuring.

Baby Shout Out #2

Robin's mom's good friend and co-worker, Michelle, in Florida had her baby on Sept. 3rd.

Welcoming...

Baby Grover is looking forward to playdates when she visits Florida!

Happy Birthday, Cousin Gus!

Baby Grover's cousin, Gus, had his first birthday on Sunday, Sept 16th. They celebrated with a party in their neighborhood park in NYC. View pictures here. We especially liked this photo:

Gus already had his own cupcake, and the second mom looks away, he goes for the big cake!

Ultrasound #3

Doctor's Appointment and a (Surprise!) 3rd Ultrasound

We had our 5th Doctor's appointment yesterday and a mild scare. The Doctor measured the length on Robin's abdomen and it had not grown very much since our last appointment. The Doctor wanted us to get another ultrasound to determine that the baby was not having any growing issues. We were able to get in for the ultrasound that same afternoon which was good for both of us as we would probably have gotten completely stressed out if we had to wait even a day. We had the same technician as the first ultrasound we did and she stated that the baby appeared to be in the normal growth range for 25 weeks. So everything is fine and as an extra bonus we continue to rack up more pictures of Baby Grover. The baby's heart rate at the doctor's office was 152 and at the ultrasound the baby's heart rate was 133. The 133 was by far the lowest recorded heart rate to date causing Jeff to look quite dumbfounded when the technician said it out loud. Robin being the thorough person she is asked the technician at the end if she still thought it was a girl. The technician checked it out and showed us and said that it would be her "guess". She did not attach a certain percentage this time and we did not push as we already have a 99.9999% that it is a girl from the 2nd ultrasound. We will post the pictures in the next post, Baby Grover once again had her head facing down and made it difficult to get good pictures of her face. This is the third time that we have heard that she is bashful, we will be surprised if Baby Grover turns into the next Paris Hilton.

More on the 2nd Ultrasound

We wanted to give a few more details on our second ultrasound, so here goes... We loved the place we went to (Waves), it was so worth the money!!! There were two people helping us, one was the ultrasound tech and the other was in sort of a screening room working on the video for the whole "event". Since we were just getting the minimum 2D Gender Determination package, we expected to be in a little room, they'd do the ultrasound really quickly and say "girl" or "boy". But, wow, we were wrong. They had us all set up in the theater room (here is a pic Jeff took) We were watching everything on a big screen like we were at a movie. They said Jeff could sit comfortably on the sofas or sit back by Robin (he chose to sit by Robin) They have parties there where you can bring a group of people to watch the ultrasound. The tech explained the she was going to start with the 2D ultrasound and then do some 3D and 4D ones. We told her we were only getting the 2D package and she said, "That's okay, I like to take some 3D and 4D ones anyway" So, the lights went down, and the candles were lit and we started. She explained everything so well and took some measurements of a few things, like the amniotic fluid. She talked about everything she looked at: cord, heart, stomach, bladder, etc, and explained what she was seeing and why that was good. Then she focused in a little more on the face because she explained the baby takes offense if she goes straight to trying to determine boy or girl - ha! After the face, she located the girl parts and said she was certain it was a girl! We both noticed the music in the room changed to "daughter" type songs. Next, the tech tried to get some 3D and 4D pictures, but the baby had a bunch of cord in front of her face and then her hands and feet were in front of her face (at one point we have a picture of her little hand holding her foot). Even though the tech was having a tough time getting a 3D shot it didn't stop her from trying. She had Robin on her side, flatter on her back, on her other side and she was really talking to the baby and really trying to move Robin's belly to get the baby to look up and move her hands and feet. She probably tried for a good 15-20 minutes even though it wasn't even part of our package. No luck, though, so we didn't get any good 3D/4D shots.

Baby Grover's First Hawkeye Game

Baby Grover traveled to the Windy City to catch her first Hawkeye game. The Hawkeyes were victorious over the Northern Illinois Huskies 16-3. Baby Grover thought the game was a little boring sleeping through much of it. Baby Grover's Mom and Dad got to catch up with a lot of their friends that were also at the game. We started off tailgating at Pippin's Tavern on Rush Street along with the Davis', Klitzke's, and the Laube's. Here are the three pregnant ladies at Pippin's enjoying some Non-Alchololic brew. We then made it over by the stadium to meet up with Uncle John and Aunt Kristy's tailgate just outside the stadium. They gave Robin a "Future Hawkeye" maternity shirt that they bought earlier that day. We will post a picture when Baby Grover can fill out the shirt so it fits properly. It was fun to get the college football season started and Baby Grover looks forward to next Saturday's home opener against Syracuse.
