98 bottles of beer on the wall

Izzie put a 'hit' out on her mama this last weekend. To celebrate Stacey and Tammy's birthdays, the girls decided to meet in CF and go out. This would be my first entire night away from Isabella. Daddy and Isabella stayed back in Coralville. The night was going really well and it was really nice for the girls to be together since we never get to see each other. We started off at the Stuffed Olive Martini Bar and then headed over to Joker's to dance.

Just when it was about time to go home, I got hit on the head with what I can only assume is a beer bottle, maybe thrown from the balcony. I heard glass breaking and thought my head hurt a little, but I didn't realize I was bleeding. Cathy looked at me and said "what happened?" referring to the blood running down my arm. I realized something was very wrong so we ran up to the bartender who sent us over to someone to look at it. We got it cleaned up in the back room at Joker's, but it was still bleeding. I couldn't really tell the extent of the injury, so we decided I'd better go to the emergency room. Georgine (Stacey's mom) had planned on coming to pick us up and take us home that night, so we called her and had her drop Cathy and I off at the ER. Luckily, the ER in Cedar Falls doesn't get much action and we just walked right in and someone treated me immediately. They pulled out a stapler and put 2 staples in my head!!! Luckily, it didn't hurt much, but I have to go to my doctor next Monday and get the staples removed. We're sure the whole situation didn't look good... coming into the ER at 1:45 in the morning because of being hit on the head with a beer bottle when you have a 4 month old you left at home in Coralville... could raise some eyebrows. I'm not sure what the nurses and doctors were thinking. Cathy tried to take a few pictures in the ER but go in trouble by the doctor. I'm thinking maybe I was given the ER treatment for a drunk UNI college student, when I told the nurse I was 31 he really really acted like he didn't believe me.

Jeff maintains a couple of theorys.. first, Isabella is behind the whole thing and trying to punish me for leaving her for a night. second, the circumference of my head is so large, he's surprised this kind of thing doesn't happen more often. Who knows what really happened, but it makes for an interesting story. It takes a lot of work to get all that blood out of my hair and who knows if I've even gotten it all out yet. Tammy mentioned it is a good thing I don't have blond hair! This whole incident brings back memories of when I stepped on a broken beer bottle while dancing at Shagnastys (yes, that was the name of the bar) 10+ years ago. The glass was curved just right so that it wrapped around my foot and cut it. My foot bled for a week after that!

Now I have to deal with the bar still and insurance issues. I'm pretty sure the bar is going to cover it, but it might end up being a hassle. I was just happy I had gotten everything straightened out with some of the insurance issues I was having with Isabella's birth (3 insurance companies in the last 4 months because my company got acquired by another company) but it looks like now I'll be on the phone with insurance again...

Thanks to Georgine for picking us up and giving me a ride to ER.
Thanks to Cathy for hanging out with me in the ER and answering questions for me when I got confused.
Thanks to Jesse for picking us up from the ER.
Thanks to Tammy for washing the blood out of my jeans.
Thanks to Stacey for providing plenty of entertainment throughout the evening!

Jeff and Isabella survived their night of just the two of them. It must have been a little rough on Jeff because this is a picture of him napping the next day. So tired, he couldn't even lift his legs or take his shoes off!
