2 year old visit to the doctor

Today I took Isabella to her 2 year old check-up. She was being really funny the whole time we were there, sort of acting like a different child. When we were waiting in the waiting room a child came out screaming and a second later the nurse called "Isabella" which sent her screaming. Then she was upset that I was making her leave a book in the waiting area and the nurse told her they had plenty of books in the room, so she decided she was okay with that.

Back in the room I chatted with the nurse while Isabella was really into the books. She kept saying "I need more books" and "Read this". Then the nurse said it was time to weigh and measure her so we went into the hallway and Isabella stood on the big scale (rather than sitting on the baby scale like I was used to). She weighed 30 lbs (80th percentile). Next, she walked about to the wall where they measure her height and the nurse made her stand up straight with her heels against the wall while she brought down the measuring device and Isabella just stood there like a champ. She was 34.75 inches (65th percentile) The nurse said she's never seen a child that age just stand there so still (I don't know if I believe that) but it was kind of strange. Then, for some reason Isabella tried walking back to the room without bending her knees, she looked hysterical.

Back in the room, the nurse took her blood pressure with a little blood pressure kit. The nurse was really good with her. The only time Isabella got scared was when the nurse was putting on rubber gloves. She had to take a prick of her finger to test for lead. The nurse was a total pro and pricked her and got Isabella's blood into a little straw and Isabella just watched, sort of fascinated. No shots this visit, hooray!

While we were waiting for the doctor, Isabella totally floored me. She looked at a picture of zebras on the wall and said "Zebras". I said "How many are there?" and without missing a beat she said "Four" and went back to reading her book. She was totally right. I don't know if it was a total fluke or what, but to say how many of something there was without counting it out seemed really bizarre to me. Then she was reading a book with an alligator in it and I said "is that an alligator?" and she said "Alligator clap" and started clapping her arms like an alligator mouth.

Unfortunately the wait for the doctor was a little longer than we would have liked. Isabella ran out of books to read (she's not one that normally likes to read the same book over and over again) and became a little restless. So when the doctor came in I was trying to talk to the doctor and Isabella at the same time and it was getting tough. When the doctor got out her stethoscope, Isabella immediately started pointing to her chest because she knew that was what the doctor was going to do. The doctor said Isabella is doing great. She said according to her calculations (not scientific) Isabella would be 5 ft 11 in as an adult (doing the calculation for how tall they are at 2) but I think she got her math wrong. When I was trying to figure it out based on calculations online I was only getting 5 ft 9in approx.

All in all, it was good (albeit strange, who is that child?) trip to the doctor.
