Isabella's First Trip to the Dentist

Isabella had her first dental appointment a week ago on Monday. She did pretty well. The dentist we took her to was recommended by our pediatrician and our friend Diane, so it was nice not to have to really even research dentists, it was a no-brainer. Plus, the office is very Hawkeye oriented so that was an added plus. http://www.dentistforkidz.com/

After a short wait in the waiting room, where they had a little Kinnick stadium play area, we were called back. There are basically just 4 dental chairs in a room, so Isabella was able to watch other kids getting their teeth worked on too. (and watch as other kids were screaming) She sat on my lap while I sat in the chair and would randomly yell out "Hawkeye" (because there was a Herky statue in the room) and "brushing!" when someone was getting their teeth brushed. The hygienist came in and we laid Isabella back across me and she got her teeth brushed. She did fine with that. Then the dentist came in and we leaned her back again and he looked at her teeth. She screamed during this part. The dentist said she has all her teeth! Some of the molars might not completely be in, so they might still be sensitive, but the worst is definitely over! Because she had all her teeth, the dentist said it was time for fluoride, so he put some on her teeth and she screamed through that again. After that, she got to pick out a toy and a sticker. Next, we went into the dentist's office while he chatted with us about brushing, toothpaste, etc. On our way out we passed a little girl with tears streaming down her face walking back to the dentist chair, poor thing, it was like she was walking to the electric chair. Overall, a good visit for Isabella and now we go back in 6 months.
